Skoda is pushing the safety envelope in India. After the Kushaq became the first car with a 5-star GNCAP rating under stricter protocols in 2022, and the Slavia followed suit in 2023, both models are now getting a significant safety upgrade.
Six Airbags Now Standard Across All Variants
Previously, only top-of-the-line Kushaq and Slavia trims offered 6 airbags. Now, Skoda has made this crucial safety feature standard on all variants. This move comes at a price increase of Rs 10,000 to Rs 35,000, depending on the variant.
Stronger Safety Shield
The additional airbags bolster existing safety features like electronic stability control, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), brake assist, and traction control. This comprehensive suite of features provides enhanced protection for occupants in case of a collision.
Skoda Leads the Way, Volkswagen Yet to Follow
It’s important to note that Volkswagen, whose Taigun and Virtus share platforms with the Kushaq and Slavia, hasn’t announced similar safety upgrades yet. Skoda’s proactive approach positions them as a leader in prioritizing occupant safety.
Engine Options Remain Unchanged
The Kushaq and Slavia continue to offer two turbo-petrol engine choices. The 1.0-liter option delivers 113 bhp and 150 Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a torque converter automatic transmission. The 1.5-liter engine pumps out 148 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG gearbox available.
Exciting New Features on the Horizon
Skoda is planning exciting upgrades for the Kushaq and Slavia. The Kushaq will receive a first wave of new features, including a head-up display (HUD), panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake, and Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). Potential tweaks to the exterior and interior design are also in the works. We can expect similar enhancements for the Slavia following the Kushaq’s facelift.
Skoda’s commitment to safety with the standard 6 airbags and planned feature upgrades demonstrates their dedication to providing Indian customers with well-equipped and secure vehicles.
